SSAW Steel Pipe

SSAW Steel Pipe

SSAW steel pipe is a spiral seam steel pipe made of strip steel coils as raw materials, often extruded and formed by automatic double-wire double-sided submerged arc welding. The spiral steel pipe feeds the strip steel into the welded pipe unit. After rolling by multiple rollers, the strip steel is gradually rolled up to form a round tube blank with an open gap. The reduction of the squeeze roller is adjusted to control the weld gap at 1~ 3mm, and make both ends of the welding joint flush.SSAW steel pipes are generally used for welding into pipelines for fluid transportation, metal structures, pile foundations, etc. For liquid transportation: water supply, drainage. For gas transportation: coal gas, steam, liquefied petroleum gas. For structural use: as pile pipes, bridges; docks, roads, building structure pipes, etc.

SSAW Steel Pipe Production Flow Chart

Spiral welded pipe (SSAW pipe) is a kind of spiral seam steel pipe made of strip steel coil as raw material, which is welded by automatic double-wire double-sided submerged arc welding process and extruded at room temperature. Water supply engineering, petrochemical industry, chemical industry, electric power industry, agricultural irrigation and urban construction are the fields where spiral welded pipes are mainly used.

Advantages of SSAW Steel Pipe

SSAW pipe (or spiral welded pipe) is formed by cold forming hot rolled coil and welding in a continuous process using submerged arc welding. It is made by rolling low carbon structural steel and low alloy steel strip into pipes according to a certain spiral angle and then welding the pipe joints. The spiral welding process is efficient, flexible, low cost, and can be customized to very large diameters or long lengths according to different grades.

Advantages of spiral welded pipe:
(1) Steel pipes of different diameters can be produced from the same width of steel pipe, which is particularly suitable for producing large diameter steel pipes from narrow strip steel.
(2) Under the same pressure conditions, the stress on the spiral weld is smaller than that on the straight seam, which is 75% to 90% of that on the straight seam welded pipe, so it can withstand greater pressure. Compared with the straight seam welded pipe of the same outer diameter, the wall thickness can be reduced by 10% to 25% under the same pressure.
(3) Accurate size, generally the diameter tolerance is not more than 0.12%, the deflection is less than 1/2000, and the ovality is less than 1%. Generally, the sizing and straightening processes can be omitted.
(4) It can produce continuously. In theory, it can produce steel pipes of unlimited length. The loss of cutting the head and tail is small, which can increase the metal utilization rate by 6% to 8%.
(5) Compared with straight seam welded pipes, it is flexible to operate and easy to change varieties.
(6) The equipment is light in weight and has low initial investment. It can be made into a trailer-type mobile unit to directly produce welded pipes at the construction site of pipeline laying.
(7) It is easy to realize mechanization and automation.

Application of SSAW Steel Pipe

Spiral welded pipe is mainly used in water conservancy projects, petrochemicals, chemicals, electricity, agricultural irrigation, urban construction and other fields. Used for liquid transportation: water supply, drainage, sewage treatment projects, mud transportation, seawater transportation. Used for gas transportation: coal gas, steam, liquefied petroleum gas. Used as structures: used as piling pipes, used as bridges; docks, roads, building structures, marine piling pipes and other pipelines.
