Slotted casing pipe is a method of cutting multiple longitudinal or spiral straight-arranged and staggered slits of certain specifications on oil casing and tubing in various ways. It is made by using a special ultra-thin cutting sheet and beam cutting, with a slit width (0.2-0.5mm). The cross-sections of the seams are rectangular, trapezoidal (trapezoid angle is 3-8 degrees) and special shapes (round holes), etc., which can ensure the permeability of 0.5%-10%. The layout of the seams can be processed according to user requirements.Slotted screens are widely used in filtration and screening processes in the fields of oil, natural gas, groundwater, etc. Its main function is to effectively prevent sand and other impurities from entering the production pipeline through precise slot design, thereby ensuring the smooth flow of fluids and increasing the service life of the equipment. Slotted screens are also commonly used in filtration systems in water wells, geothermal wells, chemical and mining industries to ensure the purity of resources and production efficiency.

Size of Slotted casing

Slotted casing have straight and trapezoidal grooves with a minimum slot width of 0.012 inches and a maximum slot width of 0.25 inches.

Slotting patterns of Slotted Casing

Three distinct slot layouts have been created to accommodate distinct traits (shown below). In comparison to staggered and straight slot patterns, the gang slot design significantly improves the liner’s resistance to lateral buckling and collapse stresses.

Staggered slots are evenly distributed around the circumference with an offset
Gang slots are made up of many slots that are dispersed around the perimeter
Straight slotted liner features slot columns spaced evenly around the circumference without offset

Slot types of Slotted Casing

- Straight Slots

This slot type is cut perpendicular to the liner and has the same diameter from the inside to the outside of the wall. While straight slots are less expensive to build, they are less effective in containing sand than keystone slots.


- Keystone Slots
Keystone slots, or tapered slots, are cut at a little angle and are larger on the inside than on the outside, ensuring that any particle entering the slot can pass freely without clogging it.

While keystone slots are more expensive to manufacture than straight slots, they eliminate the danger of production losses caused by filled liner slots.

Advantages and Features of Slotted Casing Products

1. Slotted casing is suitable for sand prevention in sand-producing wells with sand particles larger than 0.3mm.
2. The slotted casing has good edge verticality, smooth cutting edges without burrs, and uniform slits.
