SCH 80 Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe Specifications

Date:2024-09-30Tags:seamless stainless steel pipe, SCH 80
Stainless steel is a common material for making all kinds of pipes. Thick-walled stainless steel unthreaded pipes, also known as Schedule 80 stainless steel pipes, provide super strong connections. They can be welded to obtain extra length, and welded connections are said to be stronger than threaded connections. Because they are less likely to leak. These sch 80 stainless steel pipes are seamless, smooth inside, and unrestricted flow. They have the strength to resist corrosion and withstand high pressure. They are used to transmit air, water, oil, natural gas, and hydraulics.

What is seamless stainless steel pipe?

Seamless stainless steel pipe is a round, square or other shaped pipe made of stainless steel material. No welding process is used in its manufacturing process, so it has good integrity and continuity. Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and aesthetics, stainless steel seamless pipes are widely used in various fluid transportation fields, such as water supply, drainage, sewage treatment, petrochemical, medical and food fields.

What is SCH 80?

SCH 80 (Schedule 80 pipe) represents wall thickness, which refers to XS thickened pipes with a pressure wall thickness of less than DN200mm. The usage scenarios generally involve high temperature, high pressure, and strong corrosion conditions. The wall thickness of SCH 80 grade pipe is relatively thick, and the pressure and temperature in the use environment must meet ASME/ANSI standards to ensure the safety and reliability of the piping system. SCH 80 grade piping systems are often used to manufacture chemical equipment, high-pressure pipelines, high-temperature heaters, and some special piping systems. When designing and installing steel pipe systems, it is necessary to select the appropriate pipe number according to the actual use environment to ensure the stability and safety of the piping system.

The pressure rating of Schedule 80 stainless steel pipes helps it withstand high pressure. The thickness of the wall helps determine the pressure rating. The continuous working pressure of a 2-inch pipe is usually rated at 920 PSI and tends to burst at 7340 PSI. While a 3 ½-inch pipe is said to have a continuous working pressure of 990 PSI and tends to burst at 7950 PSI. If operating at a temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit, the maximum operating temperature of stainless steel Schedule 80 pipes will be about 62 PSI.

Features of sch 80 seamless stainless steel pipes:

1. Corrosion resistance: Seamless stainless steel pipes have good corrosion resistance, especially to chloride ions and oxidants. In corrosive media such as acid, alkaline, salt solution and sea water, its corrosion resistance is much higher than that of ordinary steel pipes.
2. High strength: Seamless stainless steel pipes have high strength and stiffness, can withstand high pressure and gravity, and have good earthquake resistance.
3. Aesthetics: Since no welding process is used during the manufacturing process, the seamless stainless steel pipe has a smooth surface, no welds, and is not easy to accumulate scale, so it has good aesthetics and cleanliness.
4. Easy maintenance: Seamless stainless steel pipes have good self-cleaning properties and are not easy to accumulate scale and breed bacteria. Therefore, maintenance is easy and only requires simple cleaning and disinfection.
5. Long service life: Seamless stainless steel pipes have a long service life, generally more than 50 years, and will not suffer from rust and corrosion problems like ordinary steel pipes during use.
