ASTM A36 Mechanical Properties

Tensile strength: between 400MPa and 550MPa

The delivery status of ASTM-A36 steel plates mainly includes the following:


Hot rolling: The steel plates are delivered directly after high-temperature rolling on the hot rolling mill. The steel plates in this delivery state may have a certain amount of iron oxide on the surface, which needs further cleaning and treatment.

ASTM A36 steel plate is normalized at 899°C to 954°C (1650°F to 1750°F), annealed at 843°C to 871°C (1550°F to 1600°F), stress relieved at 677°C to 927°C (1250°F to 1700°F), carburized at 899°C to 927°C (1650°F to 1700°F), and hardened at 788°C to 816°C (1450°F to 1500°F). Hardening is highly desirable when hardness and strength are the main properties required in the design. Normalizing is the final treatment after the manufacturing process.

The properties of this steel plate allow it to stably deform when the stress exceeds its yield strength, allowing bridges, buildings, and any other structures to last long enough to allow residents to be safely evacuated before any collapse occurs.
