ASTM A106/ASME SA106 is a standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipe for high temperature service. It includes three grades: A, B and C, of which Grade B is the most commonly used. This type of pipe is used in various industries, including piping systems for oil and gas, water and mineral slurry transportation. It is also used in boiler systems and for building and structural purposes.

ASTM A106 Grade B pipe is considered equivalent to ASTM A53 Grade B and API 5L Grade B in terms of chemical composition and mechanical properties. It is a carbon steel with a minimum yield strength of 240 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 415 MPa.

ASTM A106 Grade B pipe (A106M - 18) is a standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipe for high temperature service. ASTM A106 pipe is always delivered in a seamless method and can be bent, coiled and flanged. Carbon Steel astm a106 Pipe, ASTM A106 Grade B pipe sizes, less than 2 inches, are usually delivered as cold drawn products. 2 inches and above are usually hot worked. SA106 pipe is expected to be used in high temperature applications. What is A106 Pipe?

A106 Pipe is a black carbon steel pipe, A106 Gr B Sch 40, A106 Gr B Erw Pipe and ASTM A106 Seamless Pipe are suitable for high temperature and high pressure services. ASTM/ASME A-106/SA-106 Grade Seamless Pipe is one of our most widely used carbon steel grades and is readily available from stock in all standard thicknesses (up to SCH160). These A106 Seamless Pipe, SA106 Pipe, ASTM A106 Grade B Line Pipe are available in three different strengths of Grades A, B and C. NPS 1-1/2 and below may be A106 Grade B hot finished or A106 Grade B cold drawn. NPS 2 and above shall be A106 Grade B hot finished unless otherwise specified. Surface finish standards are outlined in the specification. SA106 material, ASTM A106 Grade A and ASTM A106 B are available in most sizes and schedule numbers, with SA106 Grade B allowing higher carbon and manganese content than Grade A. A106 Grade B Pipe, ASTM A106 Grade B Schedule 40 Pipe, and A106 Black Pipe offered by ASTM Seamless Pipes have a maximum carbon content of 0.23%.

This standard covers NPS (National Standard Straight Pipe) pipe sizes from 1/8” to 48” (10.3mm DN6 – 1219mm DN1200). It also complies with the nominal wall thickness specified in ASME B 36.10M. For sizes not covered by ASME B 36.10M, this standard specification may still be used.

Raw Materials

The materials used in the ASTM A106 standard specification shall be suitable for bending, flanging or similar forming processes. If the steel is to be welded, the welding process shall be suitable for this grade of ASTM A106 and suitable for high temperature service environments.

If a higher grade or higher grade of ASTM A106 steel pipe is required, the standard provides optional supplementary requirement specifications. In addition, these supplementary specifications require additional testing when ordering pipes that meet this standard.
