Hollow Section

Hollow Section

Hollow Section refers to structural steel tubes with a hollow cross-section. The most common types include Square Hollow Section (SHS) and Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS). These steel tubes are widely used in construction, mechanical manufacturing, infrastructure, and industrial equipment due to their high strength, lightweight structure, and excellent fabrication performance.

Standard of Hollow Section

EN 10210:S235JRH,S355J2H,S355NH,S355J0H

EN 10219:S235JRH,S355J2H,S355NH,S355J0H
ASTM A500:Gr.A,Gr.B,Gr.C

ASTM A312 TP304,304L,316,316L

Types of Hollow Section

Square Hollow Section (SHS)

Square hollow section is a square-shaped steel tube with equal side lengths. It has good compressive strength, torsional resistance, and structural stability, making it suitable for various structural and mechanical applications.

Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS)
Rectangular hollow section is a rectangular steel tube with unequal side lengths. It provides excellent bending strength and structural rigidity, which makes it ideal for structural frames and heavy-duty applications.

Carbon Hollow Section

A500 Gr-B Standard specification published by the ASTM for cold-formed welded and seamless carbon steel structural tubing in round, square, and rectangular shapes.
A513 Offers high weldability and is used frequently in structural applications in bridges and buildings as well as in both the automotive and appliance industry.

Hollow Section Sizes

Square Hollow Section

Size Range Wall Thickness
20 × 20 mm – 400 × 400 mm 0.4 – 20 mm

Rectangular Hollow Section

Size Weight (kg/m)
40 × 20 × 1.6 1.38
50 × 30 × 2.6 2.1
60 × 40 × 2.9 4.23

Hollow Section Manufacturing Process

Hollow Section is a hollow rectangular cross-section lightweight thin-walled steel tube, that is, a steel tube with unequal side lengths. Its structure is simple and stable, and its bearing capacity is high. The specifications of square tubes are usually expressed by side length and wall thickness. Rectangular tubes

Rectangular steel pipe is made of seamless pipe as base material, through double drawing or cold drawing, also known as round to square. The main processing flow of rectangular steel pipe is: round steel → pipe blank → inspection → heating → perforation → sizing → hot rolling → flat head → inspection → pickling → spheroidizing annealing → cold drawing → forming → flat end → inspection.

Hollow sections are mainly manufactured using the ERW (Electric Resistance Welding) process.

Production Steps
1.Steel coil uncoiling
2.Leveling and strip preparation
3.Roll forming into round tube
4.High-frequency welding
5.Forming into square or rectangular shape
6.Cooling and sizing
7.Cutting to required length
This manufacturing process ensures high production efficiency, consistent quality, and precise dimensions.
