A Weldolet is an integrally reinforced, forged branch connection fitting used to join a branch pipe to a header (run) pipe. It is typically installed over an opening in the header pipe and attached via welding. The branch end of the Weldolet features a butt-weld connection, while its forged, one-piece reinforced structure provides the necessary structural support for the branch opening area.Weldolets are widely used in piping systems for oil, natural gas, refining, petrochemicals, power generation, and industrial processes; they are particularly suitable for pressure piping applications requiring reliable welded branch connections. These products are generally manufactured in accordance with standards such as MSS SP-97, with specifications selected based on pipe diameter, wall thickness, material, and project requirements.

What Is a Weldolet?

A Weldolet is a forged branch outlet fitting used to create a reinforced branch connection on a run pipe.
Unlike a conventional tee, a Weldolet is installed at an opening made in the main pipe. Its forged body provides reinforcement around the branch connection.
The branch outlet has a butt-weld end. The branch pipe is aligned with the outlet and welded around the prepared end.
This design provides a compact branch connection while reducing the need for a fabricated branch fitting.
The main components are:
Run pipe — the main pipeline carrying the process medium.
Branch outlet — the smaller pipe connected to the main pipe.
Forged reinforcement — the integral body around the branch opening.
Butt-weld end — the prepared outlet connected to the branch pipe.
MSS SP-97 covers integrally reinforced forged branch outlet fittings, including butt-weld, socket-weld and threaded outlet types.

Weldolet Manufacturing Process

1.Raw Material Selection
Select suitable carbon steel, stainless steel, or alloy steel according to the application and required standards.
2.Cutting and Forging
Cut the raw material and form the weldolet through hot forging to achieve the required shape and strength.
3.Machining
Machine the forged fitting to achieve accurate dimensions, branch outlet size, wall thickness, and surface finish.
4.Heat Treatment
Apply the required heat treatment to improve strength, toughness, ductility, and dimensional stability.
5.Welding Preparation
Clean and bevel the connection surfaces to ensure proper fit-up and weld penetration.
6.Finishing and Inspection
Finish the surface and inspect dimensions, appearance, and material quality. NDT methods such as UT, RT, or MT may also be performed when required.
7.Packaging and Delivery
After final inspection, pack the weldolets securely and prepare them for shipment.
