Introduction

Oil casing pipes are important pipelines that transport crude oil and natural gas from oil and gas layers to the surface after drilling. In this process, the oil casing pipe needs to withstand considerable pressure. Therefore, as an important accessory for connecting oil casing pipes, the performance of the pup joint directly affects the service life and work efficiency of the oil casing pipe. This article introduces a new type of convenient double-headed oil casing pipe pup joint for oil fields to solve many problems of traditional oil pipe pup joints, such as inconvenient to take, easy to scratch, slow flow rate and impurity blockage.


Disadvantages of traditional pup joints

Traditional pup joints are usually connected by threads or flanges. Different types of threaded pup joint include double-ended male threads, single-ended male threads, and flat-ended male threads. Although these nipples are widely used in industrial pipeline connections, they still have the following disadvantages in actual use:

Inconvenient to pick up: When multiple pup joint are connected together, the clamping nipples are not easy to pick up during movement, and can only be connected to the bottom fixing groove through friction connection, which increases the difficulty of operation.

Easy to scratch: Some fixed rods cannot be extended and retracted, which makes it easy to scratch the bottom connection port during movement, thereby shortening the service life of the oil casing pipe pup joints.

Slow flow rate: The flow rate inside the oil pipe is slow, which affects work efficiency. Especially when the oil enters the inside of the oil casing pipe, the slow flow rate will lead to low overall transportation efficiency.

Impurity blockage: Particle impurities in the oil easily block the pipeline and form dirt, which not only affects the flow rate, but also increases maintenance costs. The internal filter device of the traditional pup joint is not easy to clean and replace, resulting in the pup joints having to be replaced after the internal filter is blocked.

Design of a new type of oil casing pipe pup joint

In order to solve the above problems, we designed a convenient double-headed oil pipe pup joint for oil fields. The design has the following advantages:

1. Structural composition

The oil casing pipe pup joint includes a left through pipe and a right through pipe, and the left end of the left through pipe and the right end of the right through pipe are both welded with connectors. The left through pipe is internally threaded with a left extension pipe, and the right through pipe is internally threaded with a right extension pipe. A connecting pipe is welded at the left end of the right extension pipe, and a sealing mechanism is provided at the left end of the connecting pipe. A flow guide is welded at the left end of the left extension pipe and the right end of the right extension pipe, and a detachable filtering mechanism is provided inside the flow guide.

2. Design of flow guide

The shape of the flow guide is a conical structure, and the outer surface is slidably connected to the inside of the left through pipe. Two sealing rings are clamped on the surface of the flow guide, and the surface of the sealing ring contacts the inner wall of the left through pipe, and the structure of the sealing ring is an O-type structure. This design effectively prevents the occurrence of oil leakage.

3. Removable filter mechanism

The filter mechanism includes a rotating handle, the interior of the rotating handle is slidably connected to a sliding rod, the bottom end of the sliding rod is clamped with a filter, the surface of the sliding rod is sleeved with a telescopic spring, and the telescopic spring is located between the rotating handle and the filter. The inner wall of the guide head is provided with a clamping groove, and the surface of the rotating handle is clamped inside the clamping groove. This design makes it very convenient to disassemble and clean the filter, thereby reducing maintenance costs.

4. Sealing mechanism

The sealing mechanism includes a connecting seat, the surface of the connecting seat is sleeved with a sealing gasket, the right end of the left extension tube is provided with a sealing groove, the sealing gasket is located inside the sealing groove, and the surface of the connecting seat is threadedly connected to the inside of the left extension tube. The connecting seat is made of stainless steel, and the right end of the connecting seat is welded to the left end of the connecting tube. This sealing design effectively improves the tightness and durability of the connection.


Other advantages of the new oil pipe pup joint

1. Convenient disassembly and cleaning

The convenient double-headed oil casing pipe pup joint used in the oil field slides into the position of the clamping groove by turning the handle, turns 90 degrees and clamps inside the guide head. The tightening force of the telescopic spring makes the turning handle clamp very tightly. The overall filter can play a preliminary filtering role on the oil and filter out the internal particulate impurities. The overall clamping method is adopted, so that the filter can be easily taken out for cleaning and replacement, which is convenient for later maintenance and repair, and reduces the maintenance cost.

2. Flow rate adjustment and portability

By relatively rotating the right and left pipes, the overall length of the left and right pipes can be controlled to facilitate the adjustment of the pup joint length. This design makes the portable installation of the double-headed oil casing pipe pup joint very simple and flexible.

3. Improve work efficiency

The design of the new pup joint optimizes the circulation of the internal oil circuit, so that the oil flow rate can be increased, thereby improving the overall work efficiency. At the same time, the preliminary filtering function of the filter effectively reduces the particulate impurities in the pipeline and avoids the occurrence of blockage.

4. Extended service life

The convenient double-headed pup joint used in the oil field effectively prevents oil leakage and wear through the design of sealing ring and stainless steel connection seat, thereby extending the service life of the oil casing pipe pup joint.

This design solves many problems existing in traditional tubing pup joint and improves work efficiency, reduces maintenance costs, and extends service life by optimizing the structural design. Through practical application, this new tubing pup joint shows good use effect and has broad application prospects. In the future, we will continue to optimize this design to further improve its performance and practicality, and provide more efficient and convenient solutions for oilfield exploitation.
