American Standard Seamless Steel Pipe

Date:2024-08-07Tags:seamless steel pipe, American standard, ASTM

Seamless steel pipe is made of steel ingot or solid tube billet by perforation, and then hot rolled, cold rolled or cold drawn. Compared with ordinary steel pipe, seamless steel pipe can withstand higher pressure. Therefore, in industrial production, seamless steel pipe is generally used for pipelines that need to withstand greater pressure. Some people call it "the micro-blood vessels in industry". Whether it is manufacturing airplanes, ships, trains, or transporting oil, gas, and water, it is needed.

What is ANSI seamless steel pipe?

The expression method of the wall thickness grade series of ANSI seamless steel pipe is different in different implementation standards. There are three main ways to express the wall thickness of ANSI steel pipe: Indicated by ANSI steel pipe number (Sch): For carbon steel seamless pipe wall thickness, there are 10 grades: Sch10, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 160, etc. The national standard seamless steel pipe symbol is represented by letters + numbers, such as "Φ114" represents a seamless steel pipe with an outer diameter of 114mm, and "10#" represents a seamless steel pipe with a wall thickness of 10mm. The American standard seamless steel pipe symbol is represented by numbers + letters, such as "2-1/2NB" represents a seamless steel pipe with an outer diameter of 2-1/2 inches, and "XXS" represents a seamless steel pipe with a wall thickness grade of XXS (extra thick).

The main products of American standard seamless steel pipes are:

1. General purpose seamless steel pipe ASTM A53 GR.B
Steel grade: SA53 B
Specifications: 1/4″-28″, 13.7-711.2mm.SA53 GR.B
Tensile strength: ≥415 (MPa), yield strength: ≥240 (MPa)
Steel grade: GRAD B
Standard: ASTM A 53, suitable for pressure piping systems, pipeline pipes, general purpose pipelines, and high temperature operations with temperatures below 350℃.

There are two ways to indicate the specifications of American standard seamless steel pipes:

The first method is outer diameter*wall thickness (e.g. 114.3*6.02mm)
The second method is inch*number (e.g. 2”*SCH80)
There are three ways to indicate the wall thickness of American standard seamless steel pipes: pipe number, wall thickness size and pipe weight
1. The wall thickness is indicated by the pipe number "Sch".
2.The pipe number is the ratio of the design pressure of the pipe to the allowable stress of the material at the design temperature multiplied by 1000 and rounded. That is: Sch=P/[o]tx1000
3.ASME B36.10M wall thickness grades Sch10, Sch20, Sch30, Sch40, Sch60, Sch80, Sch100, Sch120, Sch140, Sch160 2. Indicated by the wall thickness size of American standard seamless steel pipes China, IS0, and Japan adopt some American standard seamless steel pipe standards

The wall thickness of the pipe is expressed by the weight of the pipe. It divides the wall thickness of the pipe into three types

a. Standard weight pipe, expressed as STD
b. Thickened pipe 0 is expressed as XS
c. Extra thick pipe mouth is expressed as XXS.
For pipes with DN≤250mm, Sch40 is equivalent to STD, and for pipes with DN<200mm, Sch80 is equivalent to XS.
