ASTM A252 Grade 2 Steel & Pipe Specification

Based on the tensile strength and the yield strength the ASTM A252 is classified into three categories/grades: ASTM A252 Grade1/ ASTM A252 Grade2/ ASTM A252 Grade3, each standard has its own application scenarios, the most commonly used of which is the Grade2 standard.ASTM A252 is the standard specification for seamless and welded steel pipe used for steel pipe piles. Grade 2 is the intermediate grade of A252 with mechanical properties of 415 MPa tensile strength and 240 MPa yield strength, suitable for medium load construction conditions, commonly used for lighter loads and better soil conditions, such as small buildings, temporary structures, and landscaping projects.

ASTM A252 Standard Overview

ASTM A252 is a specification for welded or seamless steel pipe piles, primarily used as load-bearing structures for foundations. The standard is divided into three grades: Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3. Grade 2 is widely used due to its superior overall performance. Grade 2 steel and pipes can be produced using spiral welding, longitudinal welding, or seamless processes, resulting in pipes with varying diameters and wall thicknesses.

ASTM A252 Grade 2 Steel & Pipe must as per the following requirements:

Chemical analysis shall be in accordance with Test Methods, Practices, and Terminology A 751.
ASTM A252 Grade 2 Steel & Pipe shall be permissible for the purchaser to make product analyses using samples from lots of pipe piles as follows:
If the chemical compositions of both of the samples representing a lot fail to conform to the specified requirement, the lot of ASTM A252 Grade 2 Steel & Pipe shall be rejected or analyses of four additional samples selected from the lot shall be made, and each shall conform to the specified requirement. If the chemical composition of only one of the samples representing a lot fails to conform to the specified requirement, the lot of ASTM A252 Grade 2 Steel & Pipe shall be rejected or analyses of two additional samples selected from the lot shall be made, and each shall conform to the specified requirement.
